Harsh winter temperatures are a major risk factor for crops, whether they are in the open field or in a greenhouse. Not to mention recurring episodes of autumn and spring frost during the flowering period, which are even more dangerous as the temperature falls suddenly, without giving the plant time to adjust. Frost can even kill seeds and cause the aerial part of the crop to dry out. It can also halt growth and cause flowers to fall early, delaying or actually preventing production. The roots of potted plants are more susceptible to changes in temperature than those of plants in the open field, meaning that low temperatures and early frosts can cause death. Various different measures can be adopted to tackle the frost problem, from protection by the use of fans for mechanically mixing different atmospheric temperature strata, to irrigation from above and even covering the crops with plastic film or sheets of perforated plastic, which can however cause the substratum to overheat excessively.

AGRIVELO frost covers made with non woven fleece in polypropylene stabilised against UV rays. Free of all chemical bonding agents, AGRIVELO is completely non-toxic. Laid over crops in open fields it favours and accelerates their growth and protects them against frost and insects. AGRIVELO frost cover is air and water permeable: crops can be irrigated and treated directly through the cloth. It does not absorb water and dries out immediately after rain. The cloth is particularly light and the cover rises with the growing crops beneath. It permits early seed planting, and since it impedes heat and moisture loss during the most delicate phases of cultivation, optimizes crops and their value.
