BANANA PROTECTION

Recommended solutions

premise

Grown throughout the tropics and subtropics, bananas are a source of food, nutrition and income for millions of rural and urban households. Climate change is a threat to banana production. Specific temperature ranges and high water demand throughout all stages of its growth limit the range and growth of banana. Strong and warm winds can cause visible injuries such as abrasions and breaking on fruits and banana leaves, lead to increase of plant stress, water loss and unmarketable crops.

banana

Banana plants and fruits are sensitive to damages caused by hail storms. Beside direct damages, hail causing secondary losses in coming years, reduction in assimilation surface and increasing susceptibility to pests and diseases. High temperatures can cause damage to the plant and fruit while low temperatures slow down growth and affect fruit quality.

High temperatures cause marginal leaf desiccation, leaf deformations and fruit malformation. Banana is sensitive to water shortages and every agricultural practice that provides saving is priority in tropical and subtropical areas. Numerous pests and diseases also pose constraints to yields.

informations

Within fairly broad parameters of adequate soil and optimal climate conditions, reasonably good cultural and crop protection practices are the most important and causing differences in fruit quality and obtained yield among commercial banana production areas. Banana growing under ARRIGONI anti-hail net in white transparent color assures the protection against hail, wind damage, excessive insolation, water loss and overcome the damages of reduced photosynthetic activity.

Using anti-hail net Fructus 5/4 on a structure made by posts and closing the lateral sides with windbreak net SCIROCCO 50 WHITE some significant benefits are achieved:
Protection from hail and safe production Microlina comfortable: climate enviromental -esential for plant development (less temperature oscillations, better humidity conditions, increase water use efficiency)

Yield increment for 30 % Protecton from some insect pests Protection from strong wind and less damage on banana leaves and plants. Significant reduction in quantity of irrigation water, better soil humidity preservation and les stress for plants. Easy performance of all working operations in orchards  (pruninig, trimming, picking…) in more favorable conditions for labor force.
